Proper American Flag Disposal

Honoring Our Flag with Respect

The American flag is a powerful symbol of our nation’s values, history, and sacrifices. When a flag becomes worn, faded, or tattered beyond repair, it should be retired with dignity and respect. At Robert John Lehman - Veterans of Foreign Wars - "VFW Post 10427", we are proud to help our community properly dispose of American flags in accordance with tradition and federal guidelines.

How to Properly Dispose of an American Flag

The United States Flag Code recommends that when a flag is no longer fit for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Veterans organizations like the VFW, American Legion, and others hold ceremonial flag retirements to ensure this is done respectfully. If you are unable to retire your flag yourself, you can bring it to us, and we will ensure it is handled with the honor it deserves.

Flag Collection Drop-Off Location

We have a dedicated Flag Collection Box at our post for community members to drop off worn or damaged American flags. The collection box is weather-resistant and accessible anytime, located outside, next to the main entrance.
